Official Launch of eGENTING Programming Competition 2006

The
eGENTING Programming Competition 2006 was officially launched on 11
August 2006 at Wisma Genting, Kuala Lumpur. A Press conference on
the strategic direction of the ICT industry co-hosted by Multimedia
Development Corporation (MDeC) and eGENTING was held in conjunction
with the official launch of the event. The 2006 competition is the
fifth annual competition organised by eGENTING. It is supported by
MDeC as a significant initiative in the development of local
programming talent.
According to Mr Jonathan Searcy, Senior Vice President of eGENTING
Research & Development (Systems), the idea of coming up with a
programming competition came about five years ago when the company
became aware of the inability of graduates that came for interviews
to solve easy real-world ICT problems even though they were
straight-A achievers.
eGENTING has, through its annual programming competition over the
past four years, demonstrated to undergraduates and graduates the
standards they must meet in order to succeed in the software
development industry. In pursuit of the highest standards in the ICT
industry, MDeC encourages more industrial organisations to be
involved in this kind of initiative.
At
the official launch, University of Malaya has been selected to host
a series of workshops that will be held in September and October
2006 to prepare undergraduates and graduates for the programming
competition. En. Badlisham Ghazali, Chief Executive Officer of MDeC,
was invited to randomly select an institution of higher learning (IHL)
from several IHLs that had earlier expressed their interest to host
the workshops.
This
year, the competition will be held on Saturday, 11 November 2006 in
Genting Highlands Resort. Interested contestants can start
registering online now at www.genting.com.my/rnd. More details of
the competition, including sample questions and solutions, and
lecture notes are also available on the website.
